Cardisa writes in her article "Freelancer.com Review" that freelancer.com had taken the fee automatically from her paypal account without her concern. She was not shown any approval gateway. Moreover they took $5.42 from her paypal account instead of the projected amount of $5. Now think, how big the accumulated amount can be when each of the employer loses an extra $0.42 each time a project is choosing to be published as urgent.
Again, the author sheds some light on the fee taking policy of freelancer.com by sharing her experience as a worker there. She says-
I find that the site seems a bit expensive to use. Five dollars is immediately deducted from your account each time you accept an awarded project, then you must pay a dollar to withdraw your funds. You pay another dollar to place your bid at the top and another to Highlight your bid. There are no free exams so if you want to show some credentials you must pay another five dollars.
The rule of the site is that minimum withdrawal amount be $30. If not one has to complete projects to reach the minimum amount. Carolee Samuda identifies this as "ridiculous".
After pointing out that the site deserves 3 out of 5 in the main article, she delivered her final verdict in a comment saying -
I don't plan on using them much and I know some people will never go there again.
Hi, wow, when I wrote that review I had no idea so many people were burned by that website. I have since deleted my account there and will never work there again. For those looking for websites to earn as freelancers I recommend Guru.com and Elance. Even oDesk is better.
